I start my lessons with asking the student to give me their top 10 favorites songs that they would like to learn and based on their level I will select one song to start. I start with the essential elements of theory and basic chords. Once the student has progressed I will beging to introduce different styles of music to find out what the student is interested in, and build a lesson's plan designed specifically fot the student and keeping the motivation and fun classes regardless of their ability level. I have a natural innate ability to teach and to help students to understand the joy of playing the guitar. My motivation and passion is the love of teaching. I love it when my students have an “aha” moment of sudden insight or discovery about the guitar. I am very patient and encouraging with instruction toward students, never causing them to feel unaccepted or discouraged. I continually create an attitude of unconditional positive regard toward their lessons and their ability to be successful. Read More

Regardless of which instrument(s) my student is learning, I generally teach at the pace of the student. I never rush a student, and I keep with a scenario that is COMFORTABLE for both of us. Being relaxed is important to learning, and I always stress having students' hands relatively loose while holding and playing their instrument. I have lesson plans that I devise myself, while referring slightly to instructional videos and books also. Read More

I'm not one to push a student too hard; after a certain point, it becomes counter-productive. Everyone is going to progress at their own rate and it's my job to find out what that rate is. Naturally different people will gravitate towards different things. By putting some time in and figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, I can address certain concepts accordingly. Personal preference is very important; you can't force enthusiasm. Read More

As I entered high school, I learned the guitar, starting with a Silvertone guitar with the small accompanying amplifier. I had sung in the church choir, so my Boy Scout friends then became my band mates during the 60's In the 70's, I went on the road with a talented rock band opening for large acts including the Allman Brothers Band and The Who.
