For my beginning students I prefer to use The Hal Leonard Complete Edition books. I find this course to be clearly written and easy to understand, and it offers a broad musical foundation to facillitate students as they move easily to higher levels of guitar studies. In addition, I incorporate rhythm reading, ear training and chord studies which I feel are essential to the development of a practical guitarist and musician. Read More

As I previously mentioned above,I show each student as much as they can pick up.I can show a student just about anything they want to learn, but its really about how much they practice at home that determines their ability. If the student practices a lot we move much quicker and it becomes more fun and challenging.Music is endless and you can never stop learning.they are proving more and more every day how music affects your brain. When you just listen to music, you use every part of your brain.Few things do that. When you play music you are using even more of your brain. It is so vital to the student’s success to enjoy the lesson plan. I start beginners with the basic fundamentals, learning chord progression, and the anatomy of the guitar, utilizing a wealth of friendly user print outs such as chords, scales, blank guitar necks, etc. Adult learners need positive reinforcement and encouragement as well, helping them to overcome barriers in their thinking, listening to them as to their goals, and marking out a clearly defined objective for the learning experience. For beginners, I begin with the essential elements of music, such as notes and scales as an introductory lesson on the guitar. To play music, one should first understand music. For intermediate and advanced levels, the focus will be on chord progression and scales. Lessons will be tailored to the student to help him/her achieve the objectives they have in mind. You can expect to be introduced to various scales, modes, finger picking techniques, different music styles, riffs, building chord progressions, Tapping and more. Read More

My method is divided in two categories: Application and theory. For beginning students we work on basic motor skills for the instrument. Through simple exercises, utilizing patterns from diagrams, most students gain a proficiency at handling the instruments within weeks. During this time students are also introduced to the notes and common chords, learning their names, titles and relationships to each other on the fretboard. Once the instrument has become familiarized and the students are comfortable enough, then we'll begin introducing theory into practice. Read More

I make every effort to get the basics down for a student and then to keep things fresh I introduce or ask the aspiring student to start thinking or picking a few songs that they would like to learn within reason of their abilities. Often times its harder to learn without proper practice time or a student's dedicated practice time not being filled to it's potential. I emphasize practice as where the talent comes from. Read More

I always teach proper technique, music reading, and eventually some music theory. If a student is just beginning, they need a method book to track their progress. I usually use Hal Leanord's guitar method. Besides this book, there should be a blank manuscript booklet for any extracurricular songs or concepts that aren't included in the book. Weekly lessons are ideal for building on the fundamentals, as any longer, the student may be memorizing bad habits or forget the proper way to play. Read More
