Maya studied upright bass performance at Berklee College of Music, where she earned a Berklee Merit Scholarship and the Bass Department Outstanding Performer Award and Scholarship. She played with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra, with a highlight performance of Lord of the Rings Symphony at Bostons Symphony Hall. She tours nationally with Boston-based bummer pop band Future Teens. The first lesson would involve a discussion about what initially drew the student to the guitar, what genres they love, and what they hope to get out of the class. Next, we will go through the fundamentals, as appropriate for the student's skill level. After we've established a clear vision and certain rhythm of doing things, I would assign 15-20mins of warm-ups for each lesson -- tailoring the warmup exercises to specific techniques that the student wants to improve in. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
