Depending on the level the student is at I will work with them where they are at and what is needed. If a beginning student I will usually start off with working on scales and use visual tools such as books to help aid the process. I have an extensive collection of teaching materials, so students usually get a copy to keep for themselves. As well as printed materials, I also transcribe material for students to keep if and when needed. I also make use of my laptop which can act as a makeshift amplifier for myself and have some resources on there to help break down songs into easy to learn segments which can be a lot of fun. The best award for the teacher is seeing his student develops his own talent. And I'm sure that every one is talented and the only question is how it talent will be enriched and developed. I encourage my student being their true self in performing, feeding from traditional and modern sources but keeping his own unique voice or playing style, accomplishing his personal goals, without comparing his own dynamics and results with other people, but working on becoming better than himself every day of learning.
