Despite my young age, I've had extensive experience in Early Childhood Education as well as one-on-one music lessons. I gave my first lesson as a high school graduate to a neighbor who wanted to learn drums and start a band. I was able to provide a technical foundation for him to feel comfortable playing with others. In no time I was working with his band on learning songs to play at a school performance. Read More

I started and loved to play the guitar since when I was 12 years old. I started out by self teaching myself how to play the style called "Finger-Style" on the steel string acoustic guitar and posted videos of myself playing this style on the instrument on YouTube. I was able to progress fast by posting videos consistently, and I had collected a big following as well. After a few years, my interest and love had grown for the classical nylon strung guitar and I continued to pursue it in a collegiate level. Read More

I began teaching private lessons part-timewhen I was still in high school on Long Island. I have taught in elementary day care in the early 1990's and taught in public schools elementary general music and chorus, beginning instrumental music at the elementary level, as well as middle school orchestra in the San Lorenzo Unified School District. After a vocal chord injury, I left the public schools to create my indie record label, produce new projects and allow healing. Read More

For young beginners, I usually start with basic theory notions taken from the Lizard Academy books, combined with some exercises on the guitar. Once comfortable, I start to introduce some notions about improvisation and soloing, as well as increase the difficulty of the exercises I want them to practice on. For young adults or adults, I like to take my students in the direction they want to go, besides teaching them something slightly different just to enrich their background. Read More

My teaching style flows from my teaching philosophy: Whole-heatedly meet a student where they are, and THEN, respectfully lead them to where you as the educator know that they need to go...Establishing a true RELATIONSHIP with a student, where they know that you have THEIR best interests in mind is absolutely fundamental. As in any relationship, trust and respect are essential, and establishing a firm foundation in those areas should be just as important as the academic and skill development aspects of teaching. I believe in encouragement, fun and positive focus on the students progress at whatever speed that they progress. This makes each student look forward to each lesson with eagerness and actually accelerates their progress. I never push a student and instead encourage and edify the student and try to use their own favorite pieces of music to keep them excited about their next lesson. Acknowledging small progress is the key and I never let a student leave without celebrating their accomplishments no matter how small! Read More

I use beginning guitar books such as Hal Leonard that show the basic layout of the guitar and are an introduction to reading. Also chord books, books on scales, jazz methods, fake books, classical books and such. I like to teach my own style, being creative and going beyond basics. I teach the student how to hold and place their hands properly on the guitar. How to develop a nice light touch and get a real nice sound. Read More
