I started teaching guitar in High School in 2009, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 8 years. I took private lessons for 7 years from four different guitar instructors, so I know what works and what doesn't. My number one focus as a teacher is keeping my students engaged, and doing my best to ignite their passion for the instrument of guitar. I then assign daily exercises that the student can utilize to begin to build control and virtuosity with their instrument. For beginners, I start with chord study. I like to incorporate teaching songs the student is interested in. This keeps students engaged and gives them something they'll look forward to practice. Once a basic understanding of chords is achieved, I move on the notes on the fretboard and music patterns and intervals to help gain an understanding of how the guitar works. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance.
