I typically do not make lesson plans but go off of what a student wants to learn. I can make lesson plans upon request. Usually, for in-person lessons, we will play together and then talk about our playing. I will provide recommended exercises to do in between lessons. I will also recommend music to listen to as well as exercises to do in between lessons. One of the most important things about music is to practice at least 10-20 minutes every day. Read More

I am a veteran of the teaching profession. I graduated from S.C.S.U. in 1986 and I have been instructing students in many capacities since that time. Some attributes I bring to my profession are a calm, understanding demeanor and a passion for helping my students achieve their individual goals. My motivation for remaining in this profession for this length of time is the benefit I pass to my students. Read More

Working with novice piano students, I usually employ traditional method materials like Bastien or Thompson if the student is a child, and Alfred for adults. Though it is rare, and usually at the insistence of a parent, I can also use these methods with beginning guitar students. For advanced students, whose aim is to broaden an already substantial aquaintance with theoretical and compositonal studies, I use the "Guitar Grimoire" series by Adam Kadman. Read More

I began teaching my younger brothers to play guitar almost since I started learning myself. Professionally, I've worked for Curtain Call in Stamford, CT to help run their Summer Youth drama program. I also directed, music directed, and choreographed the musicals at Trinity Catholic Middle School for two years. Privately, I've worked at the Schule of Music, instructing young children in guitar lessons. I believe that the drive for learning must come from the student and I'm simply their to encourage their passions and give them the knowledge and resources to achieve their own ideas. Read More

My number One thing is that it has to be fun learning otherwise the students get bored easily and disinterested so I always incorporate learning real music while you’re learning theory and carefully assessing the students strong points and trouble spots all the while giving them goals and consistent practice schedule And the critical importance of using a Metronome and having excellent timing. I want more than anything for it to be an enjoyable experience as well as a growth process for them and you continually push themselves to greater limits and I always stress the importance of practicing a little bit every day for muscle memory As supposed to spread out long practice sessions and I always give them encouraging words to help propel them to new heights, I also encourage them to bring any songs they would like to learn so that they can be playing with other fellow musicians and singers as quickly as possible Read More

I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter festivals, camps and performing events as well as work on their own composing, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I have 31 years of experience both performing and teaching music professionally. I began playing and teaching while still in college and Never stopped. When I lived in NYC I taught at the Third Street Music Settlement, as well as privately, while also maintaining a steady performing career. I have been teaching in the Upstate N.Y. area for over 10 years now. Of course as a teacher I always encourage a regular practice regiment, while also teaching every student as an individual with various different needs for them to focus on. Read More
