It is my intention that all of my students understand the importance and opportunities of music. Music is reviving for the soul, academically productive, and a lucrative choice of career if done right. My practice materials for beginner students are flexible. I often use the Alfred or Nancy Faber series, however I find it more important that beginning students grasp general concepts, while simultaneously practicing fine touch on the keys. Read More

For all of my students, I like to know what styles of music, songs, and artists inspire them! This is a core part of learning how to perform music and will help nourish their desire to learn. I also like to work very individually with each student; not following a set syllabus but rather finding a comfortable pace for the different needs and wants of all my students. This also includes a focus on the body and mind. Read More

I have a very laidback, low-pressure approach - if you didn't practice, it's not the end of the world! I think back to my own days of taking lessons and remember how much more I improved in this type of environment, and how much more I loved the process. The difference between these approaches can be night and day, both in results and morale out of the student (which, again, I know from experience as a teacher, but also from my experience as a student). I have been inspired with music since the age of 10. My dad was a big influence being profession jazz guitarist himself. He taught me so much about the guitar and other instruments. This influence has led me to be the teacher as well with guitar, bass, piano, drums and voice, which I have been doing during these years of teaching. I want the students to have fun during the teaching sessions, having them learn what style of music inspired them, and grow on that which gives me much pleasure watching them progress, thanks Al Pignataro Read More

Guitar: For beginners who are kids, I usually start with the FJH Beginner Guitar Method, while also implementing fun melodies they know that can be played on single strings. Once the student has progressed a bit, we will work in chords, more advanced rhythms, and songs appropriate for a recital. For older beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Complete Guitar Method, while again finding songs that match their musical taste and working towards their specific goals (i.e., I really want to start a punk band with my friends next summer, or I'd love to play this Taylor Swift song at the school talent show). Ive been teaching solo guitar since college, 2019. In learning the guitar, a common problem is that students feel they cannot learn enough before reaching points where struggle and confusion emerge. So one of my goals is to help students with musical flexibility and comfort at every stage of learning music. Irespectmany different historical styles and approaches. I've played in and observed many masterclasses by world renowned artists, which has informed my teaching. Read More

I try to make the learning fun and interesting for my students. My goal is to have them look forward to their next lesson and make learning their instrument something they value. I believe every student progresses at their own pace. I make sure the lesson is at a level they can handle, but challenging enough to give them a sense of accomplishment when they achieve success. Music can provide lifelong benefits of building confidence, self discipline, improved brain functioning in the area of math and reading, and the enjoyment of performing their skill with other musicians.
