I have been been playing piano in an academic setting for 20 years, voice for 9 years, and guitar for 8. During my time in high school I began teaching by tutoring my peers in music performance, music theory, and music history. I have studied various musical genres and I always love to cater my lessons to the needs of each individual student. I make it a habit of writing exercises for students so that they can work on something specifically suited to their current musical ability, and will help them grow as a performer. Read More

I studied with the Great Master Lennie Tristano and have about 15 years of intensive study like eight hours a day! There is no substitute for experience! This has afforded me the opportunity to teach privately in all style and genres effectively since high school. Bach was an Improviser and so it is in Creative Improvisation that we find the seed to musical creativity and the development of true originality! I have written six books on music published by Cherry Lane Publishing which are sol nationally. Read More

I am passionate about all facets of music and music education. I am motivated by my students, learning from them how best to instruct them and act as a guide through the universe of music. I am from a family of musicians having grown up in the culture of musical performance on both my mother and fathers side. I graduated from SUNY Empire State with a Bachelors in Music Performance with a concentration in Bass and Piano. Read More

I typically create my own lesson plans and try to cater them to the student. Most recently I've been working with trying to find a balance of teaching music theory and practical piano. When teaching theory, I often refer to Kotska's and Payne's "Tonal Harmony" for the order of the curriculum, and when it comes to exercises I will either write them out on the spot to demonstrate something to the student (I also feel it is important to SHOW the student how to MAKE music, ie. proper note notation, and symbol shape), or prepare them in advance if the content is more complex. My start as a full-time multimedia teacher was with a company called Rivoli Music. I had taught 25-30 Japanese women... It got tight in places (language) but it was mostly pleasure having the students' Photoshop, Flash, then make FLV video with original soundtracks. I had enough experience after 8+ years of working and teaching to become a full-time teaching musician again... I loved showing my original work to the public (C.E.I.G.), and the public to the classroom to studies on how it was constructed. Read More

Hey, I'm Andy and I love to play guitar ! I'm 19 and have been playing guitar for about 9 years, with most of my experience lying in jazz, blues, and rock. I'm originally a Jersey native but am currently staying in Greenwich Village as an undergrad student. As I currently dorm, it is difficult for me to give lessons out of my current living space but I am more than willing to commute anywhere in Manhattan to give lessons at your own place. Read More

One of my main goals in teaching is to inspire my students, to make them excited about music. I find that the best way to do this is to work on playing music that the student wants to play. That said, there should be a basic interest present. I expect each of my students to have an idea of why they want to play music. Ideally each student should be listening to music and know what he/she likes or dislikes. Read More
