For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Piano or Guitar Lessons for the Young Beginner by Andrew Scott and Gary Turner. The student, even at a young age, learns an introduction to music theory. Each concept is taught in a very methodical and step-by-step approach. As a teacher, I am looking to prepare students for ongoing learning for years to come. The language of music can be very confusing and I am looking for ways to minimize those perplexing times. I am a kind yet honest person. Therefore, I won't shy away from criticism, but will always do so in a respectful and proactive manner. Every student is different and I believe it is my job to adapt to fit their needs. It is wonderful to see students excited and prideful of seeing results from hard work. First and foremost, it is my job to provide a positive atmosphere a student feels comfortable in. Read More

I approach teaching with an empathetic, open mind. I truly want to get to know my students and their goals, so I can help them the best I can. I'm very patient and will push a student to do more but at their own pace. I help students use mindset and visualization tricks to unlock new potential. I'm very motivation oriented and encourage my students as best I can when things are more difficult. Read More

I have an interactive yet focused style of teaching. I can(but don't recommend) to use the Suzuki method. I feel that all aspects related to the instruments weigh much importance in teaching the student. However, with the Suzuki method, the student's primary focus is to learn pieces rapidly and climb the level of difficulty as fast as possible. This prevents him/her to fully understand and analyze the piece and lesson and it can also turn the student away from pursuing the instrument further.  Read More

I want to figure out what inspires a student. We will hone in on personal goals and use that as a basis for instruction. Motivation is key! I typically use a style of traditional classical instruction. Including scales, studies, and repertoire. I teach sight reading and ear training. I use memorization, and critical listening skills. I can teach from the beginning levels all the way up to concert playing. I can also teach other genres of music if the student desires. Read More

My teaching style is generally laid back. I believe that a student will only work as hard as they want to, and I have little control over that. I focus more on finding out what will make the student want to work hard, rather than forcing them to study something that does not interest them. It's all about getting the student to have a positive musical experience. That being said, I do my best to hold my students accountable, but try to do so in an encouraging way vs. a nagging and controlling way. Read More

Every single one of my lessons is individualized and focused on YOU and what YOU want to learn. Of course, there are things that I encourage such as posture and proper technique, among many others, yet I will always have a focus on MUSIC and helping you get to wherever you need to learn, not by theory alone but through putting what we learn into practice. I understand that some students want to learn the instruments themselves but without the context of how they function in music, I feel I would be doing them a disservice. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
