I have been teaching for 8 years. I started off in a small studio in Cypress, CA called Music Arts. Once I refined my skills there I took a job as the Music Director of Education at The Boys Girls Club of Long Beach. Currently contracted with numerous lesson facilities across Southern California, I know what it takes to make a lesson fun! I have taught students of all ages, from 5 to 70. Read More

As stated above, I try to make students hungry for practice and to feel that the pursuit of a mastery of music is an enriching experience on a deeply personal level. I'm calm, gentle, very easy to talk to. I have great patience for students and realize how frustrating learning an instrument can be sometimes. It is also worth noting that I teach Fiddle (Blu-grass, oldtime, Texas style), Guitar (primarily rhythmn guitar), and Mandolin. Read More

Once the student has completed their fundemental training we being to introduce more solo repertoire tailored to their interested. We work on one classical and one comtemporary song of their choosing. For adult piano students, we discuss their goals and what they are interested in and I tailor my instruction no matter their instrumental expereince. For Voice students I asses each vocalist and provide a completley unique one of kind vocal lesson package tailored to the students ability, sound, and experience no matter what that may be. Read More

I find a balanced approach to studying technique, sight reading, theory and the students favorite songs to be the best recipe for keeping motivated and engaged. Beginning students will use Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method (Book 1) to get into the basics of these elements down, while learning basic voicings of the most common chords that will allow them to dive into playing some of their favorite songs almost immediately. Lessons for more advanced students will be tailored to their individual needs, and can cover anything from improvising, to songwriting to learning complicated solos and advanced guitar techniques. With any student who is in a beginning sort of stage with their musicality, I will start off by teaching them basic techniques, simple notes or chords(dependent on the type of instrument), and rudimentary knowledge of the notational system. Once they have started to make some progress, I take a unique approach by asking them of their own opinion for where they would want to see themselves go. I do this to not only make it as exciting as possible for the student, but to help them achieve a vision they already have for themselves. Read More

Piano Marvel and Alfred's piano methods are a great start for all ages as they have books that are geared toward both younger and older beginners. For guitar and bass there are various Hal Leonard books that work well; one thing that I try to do with guitar and bass students is encourage them to know what note they are playing and to eventually read music notation if they are curious and interested in it. I cannot stress enough the respect I have for each student's learning style and play, and I put a lot of effort into understanding each students individuality. We're not making fast food, here! That said, I have some basic books I've been working out of for years. For younger students I work with a couple things including the Alfred Drum Method and the Bastien books, as well as very simple ear training games and things like 5 finger scales. Read More
