I know everyone learns at different speeds so making sure they are comfortable yet challenging is important to me.Being able to know when the student is enjoying and not making it a chore is a key to helping and encouraging a student learn. Watching them progress in their insturment is rewarding in of itself and nothing is more satisfying. As the student starts to see him or herself accomplish each lesson I like to praise, push and encourage to keep on. Read More

I've done just about everything that can be done in the music business including teaching guitar and bass, managing bands, booking and promoting shows, and touring the country, and my true passion definitely is in teaching beginners! I opened my first music studio in 2007 where I was able to practice with, learn from, and teach some of the best musicians in town. Having access to so many wonderful people allowed me to learn many different styles of music as well as really understand what it takes to really succeed in the business. Read More

I have been teaching music for over 7 years. I started in high school offering private instruction to families in my neighborhood. I quickly became a main source of music education in my area, and developed methods that were highly effective with younger students. During my time at Berklee College of Music, i studied music pedagogy and started developing formal lesson plans, while taking on many students of different ages (6-60). Read More

As soon as I meet with a student or a group of students, I make sure they are welcomed by an energetic teacher before getting started on their lesson. I try to keep the student(s) engaged by showing them different ways and approaches to music from books and my own personal approaches to help them grow knowing their teacher is well experienced. Since their is a lot for a percussionist than just playing with sticks on a drum, there is no doubt that the endless possibilities in teaching students the various instruments will help keep them engaged as well being more excited about music. For younger, beginning students I start with the basic fundamentals of music while keeping it interesting with games or quick melodic exercises that can be easily grasped. Too much music theory can be overwhelming and boring to a new student so I focus on the fun side of music first. For the more experienced or older student, I typically craft the lessons based on their goals, while providing concrete ways in which they can achieve them with hard work and practice. Read More

I enjoy teaching dedicated students very much and it is extremely rewarding seeing them progress. To me, my most successful teaching has been with students who weren't necessarily the most talented, but who were the most enthusiastic about learning. I think with guitar methods, the pedagogy is not as linear as other instruments and there tends to be a jump in difficulty at about the two-year point. Once the jump is made, students then enter the intermediate level and beyond. Read More

I really work hard to customize the lessons to each student, discussing with them (or their parent) what their goals are. For beginning students who are children, I use a few great books, some of which I even learned out of when I took my first lessons at age 6. For older students, I try to be open to any material they're intrested in. If a student is set on learning to play Beach Boys songs, we don't spend so much time on the classic technique and rudiments BUT over the last 15 years I've developed a system of incorporating fundamentals into practical application that gets my students playing real songs right away while improving technique.
