I have taught private guitar and piano lessons for the last four years. I really love sharing all I can with others to enable them to have a fun and fulfilling experience in learning music. An approach I favor with students is to help them learn songs that they pick and then use those songs as a springboard to teach skills such as technique, reading music, theory, and improvising. I always encourage students to write their own originals and to play for family and friends or any events. Read More

For beginners I press through Hal Leonard's Guitar Method #1, laying a foundation of skills as well as approaching notation reading on the guitar. From there we begin to specialize based on the student's interest. For more advanced students, we'll focus on goals such as live performances, audition preparation, and repertoire. Read More

My methods really depend on the level of the student. For beginners, I tend to stick to basics by teaching them chords, scales, and basic music theory; by using music that they would like to learn how to play. To aid with the learning of basic music theory, I might have the students learn some older music, just as a chance to analyze it, but nothing more than that unless of course they would like to. I am a highly motivated, hard-working, and outgoing individual. I love people and believe thatteachingmusic lessons is one the best ways to connect with students of all ages and develop a relationship with them. I started learning piano in Kindergarten, began Saxophone in my 5th grade Band, and started tutoring other band students in 6th Grade. In 7th Grade I earned scholarship to attend Illinois Summer Youth Music Camp at the University of Illinois. Read More

What keeps one interested in playing music, in the long term, is the ability to realize melodies one hears in one's head. In my experience, this is the most joyous aspect of one's musical practice, and is the underlying goal in my teaching strategy. Some aspects of one's practice, like repertoire, are geared towards performing for other people. Others are muscle and mind building exercises that increase the fluidity of one's motions while sounding their instrument. Read More

As stated above, I believe that emotion plays an integral role in the mastery and performance of any instrument. Consequently, my teaching style revolves around the use and application of emotion in play. A simple example of this would be a simple discussion of the differences between major and minor chords and the relative emotion conveyed by each, as interpreted by the student. Positive reinforcement also comes into play as each step the student takes towards applying their emotional self to their instrument is recognized and acknowledged. Read More

My teaching experience began when I was a senior in college, as I have taught guitar classes at a Denver high school and also taught privately out of my private studio. In my studio I like to work on the students goals and aspirations while also implementing an understanding of music theory and guitar anatomy. I encourage my students to practice regularly in an environment free of distractions so they can focus on the material at hand. Read More
