When working with younger children, I use the Children's progressive method for guitar and for the older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method books 1, 2 and 3. As my students progress, I supplement the lesson with songs that my students enjoy and want to learn. I also focus on ear training to help students musically hear what they are playing. Whether it's voice, guitar, ukulele, trumpet or recorder, hearing the music inside and being able to internalize the music is very important to becoming a well rounded musician. Read More

I have the same approach to teaching beginner and intermediate piano. Again, we learn our notes in five finger position and then we learn to read time signatures, notes in the treble clef, chords, and rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. I have been teaching music for many years. I enjoy watching my students progress in the learning process. I always ask what the student wants to learn such as style, a song, etc. I also accompany them playing the piano or guitar once they have learned the basic techniques, etc. This also helps them working with other musicians or singers. I started teaching lessons when I was 16 working for a music day camp in Bellevue, WA. I loved working with young kids who liked rock music and had heart when it came to their love of music. My mom has been a teacher my whole life, and I believe in people passing on knowledge and experiences to each other to help people grow and discover the world.  I think my strongsuit would be in teaching players closer to the beginning of their playing journey, as that was the most formative time for me and when I had the strongest teacher influence in my life.
