I have been teaching violin privately for 8 years, have my master's degree in violin performance. As a graduate assistant, I taught undergraduate applied violin (lessons), as well as Upper String Methods and other classes as needed. I always encourage and emphasize regular and consistent practice to my students, as it is something I find that truly helps a student gain passion for the instrument. I am also an advocate for holistic music teaching. Read More

I provide positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to encourage continuous improvement and foster a belief in their own abilities. Core Values: My teaching philosophy is centered around three core values: Commitment: I encourage students to dedicate themselves to the learning process and embrace the challenges that come with mastering a new skill. Excitement: I strive to make learning fun and engaging, fostering a love of music that will last a lifetime. Read More

I like to teach without books as much as possible as I feel it allows the student to internalize musical concepts better. The book series I use however is the Rubank method books. These have easy fundamental exercises to help keep the chops in shape and to work on reading music. I also recommend students buy sheet music of music they like(assuming it is at their playing level) and will happily work on it with them. Read More
Instruments: Flute Recorder
I like using flashcards, so students can quickly develop their site-reading. I use different techniques that meet the individual capacity of the students and adults. For intermediate and advanced students I prefer scales, etudes (exercises), sonatas, concertos and solo pieces of their preference. I like to play duets with my students and that is usually their favorite part as we can combine talents to play something beautiful. I encourage and support my students to do more and excel in their performance as a solo performer, part of a band, in competitions, etc. Read More

I sincerely believe that even the most basic material can be made to "sound good", and I stress this from the beginning. I'm big on playing duets. I'll tend to toss in tidbits about the physics of sound, or how muscle memory works. I like to engage the curiousity of the student in this way. I like to ask students about what music they like, and what they would like to do--play in a school talent show? Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet Keyboard
At the begining of a lesson I encourage to start by listening and running through the scales and pieces that we last worked on. Make sure they are all well learnt. Before moving on to more scales and next pieces in the selected order at the beginning of class. Aurals are a great way for me to play to my student as they learn more about the selected piece, learn rhythm and also interpreting their selected pieces. Read More
