For flute, I use method books by Trevor Wye.  If the student is a beginner, I will start the student with the Beginners Book for the Flute by Trevor Wye (Book 1 and 2.)  Once the student is finished with these books, the student is now ready for the intermediate and advanced books by Trevor Wye.  It is a set of 5 books that focuses on each aspect of the flute, such as tone and technique. I usually select the pieces that have nice melodies so my students would find them more enjoyable to play during practices. I encourage students to participate in student recitals every six months or at least once a year, as I strongly believe that by participating in recitals students will benefit from listen to the other players and learning from them, learning how to work fluently with the piano accompanist, and most importantly to experience the real exhilaration of performing in front of live audiences. I am honest with a student about their body, I think the best way to sing is to know how all the pieces of your instrument work together to create healthy sound. I encourage my students to eat well and take care of themselves physically and emotionally. I also want my students to have fun by singing music that enspires them to be sincere with their emotions, singing for an audience can be scary but in a private lesson I encourage trying things out even if they seem silly.
