Instruments: Guitar Trumpet Trombone Ukulele
I started giving trombone lessons to grade and high school student's since 2005. In 2006 I started leading concert and jazz bands. Immediately out of college in 2008 I worked as a music teacher teaching guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and voice for 3 years. In 2011, I moved to Peru where I was the #1 on call jazz trombonist in Lima, and was a trombone professor at the National Conservatory of music where I taught trombone technique and jazz improvisation. Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Ukulele
For the Clarinet, I typically use The Hendrickson Method book series with supplemental books on the side to enhance their various levels. For flute and saxophone, I will evaluate based on the student's level. Once I have established a method book, I incorporate solos and additional techniques. I also encourage the students to bring music from their band class and/or other solos they may be working on for festivals, competitions, or auditions. Read More
Instruments: Trombone
For beginners, I start by focusing on developing a good sound and ensuring that the student knows what a good sound is and what it is not. Air is the foundation of a good sound so, in my introductory lessons, I focus heavily on breathing and air support. This is a foundation that is continued throughout the time the student continues to take lessons. I then begin to work with the student on fundamentals such as articulation, slide control, intonation, etc. Read More
Instruments: Piano Clarinet
I have even been able to tour abroad in Venezuela, Brazil and Austria. I have been fortunate to work with many wonderful musicians and conductors along the way, and would love to pass my knowledge on to you! During my teenage years, I was privileged to study piano with former Russian concert pianist Sergei Arzoumanov, who led me through the rigors of European Classical training. Although I chose to major in clarinet performance in college, I continued to study piano with doctoral students at the Conservatory, and love to teach it! Read More
Instruments: Guitar Drums Bass Guitar Acoustic Guitar
My teaching experience dates back to 1990, when, while homeschooling my children, I taught drums and guitar as part of their curriculum. Since then I have given lessons on a part time basis. Through my experience, I have become skillful in identifying a student's strengths, weaknesses and learning style. My focus is on challenging students at their current skill level while encouraging them and making the process of learning fun. I work with students to identify their personal goals and work with them to identify practical steps towards reaching those goals. Read More
Instruments: Bass Guitar Double Bass Keyboard Electric Guitar
For one, I focus on the importance of your ears, whether it be listening to your fellow musicians, being able to hear a common chord progression or basslines in a genre, transcribing basslines, etc. However, if we do end up using bass literature I will provide that, you will not have to acquire that on your own time. Another important element I encourage is good practicing techniques, and that means practicing with a metronome, transcribing, developing a good feel, performing as authentically as you can in the genre you are playing, tips on how to develop versatility, etc. Read More
Instruments: Piano Clarinet Recorder Bassoon
This usually leads to a mixture of classical, contemporary and jazz or musical theatre. I believe that a student needs to be enjoying their lessons and their practice and if they do then they will make the most progress. I make my lessons fun and encourage students to perform whenever they get the opportunity. Performing is a great motivator as is playing in a band or orchestra. Playing music brings something special to every students life and I’m always looking to help share the music with new students both young and old! Read More
