Most of my experience with teaching has taken place while traveling on the road and helping individuals prepare for recording sessions. However for more than 10 years now, I've rendered my services at neighborhood schools (elementary and high school); music workshops; private homes; and local churches; working with young people as an assistant teacher, private music teacher and/ or teaching artist. I will test students and then select a level to start. Once they complete the highest level, I will introduce solo repertoires and Hanon and Carl Czerny to enhence their skills. i start beginning guitarists out with Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book One, because even if a player is not destined to rely on traditional notation, they still need to know the names of the notes, so they can communicate with others. I approach ukulele somewhat less formally, because chords can be played right off the bat--singing is encouraged. For all of my students, I use the Bel canto (beautiful singing) method.Bel Canto is a traditional method rooted in classical singing. I have found this method to work for all students of all levels of skill because it teaches a seamless blend of the vocal registers no matter the genre. It is a method that works most with the Mezzo de Voce (middle of the voice) which in return strengthens the passaggio ( the transition area between the vocal registers). Read More
