Melissa began singing in a church choir at the age of four and has been "hooked" ever since. After years of performing in various choirs and taking lessons herself, she went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in vocal performance at Illinois Wesleyan University and her Master's at Illinois State University. Having been the beneficiary of wonderful music lessons myself, I could easily see their importance and began to apply the techniques that had been taught to me. Most of my experience teaching is with younger students and beginners, though I have worked with intermediate-level students as well. I allow each student to progress at his or her own pace. I set realistic goals at each lesson in terms of technique. piano repertoire and theory. I make journal entries at every lesson to record what was covered. I encourage students to participate in recitals and can make arrangements for them to perform, as I beieve that public performance is an important milestone in their musical education.
