Older children just beginning to enter the world of music will begin with the fundamentals of musicianship, sound, and breathing. From there I will progress to rhythm, pitch, and notation. When these skills are mastered I will get the students comfortable with their instruments and begin playing. Students that have a background in music with their instruments will be assessed to determine the level of teaching required. After their skills have been assessed each student will have a plan of action with specific goals to met their target competency. Read More

For beginning percussion students who are children, I typically start with Kennan Wylie's Simple Steps to Successful Beginning Percussion and Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals of playing and reading, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I like to find out what what the student is interested in learning, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons engaging and fun, no matter the ability. Read More

I enjoy teaching students in both the classroom and private setting. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see a student master new ideas and advance as a musician. I believe in helping students gain a firm grounding in the fundamentals of playing their instruments, which will, in turn, help them to advance more quickly. I have been playing and teaching for over 20 years. Read More

My college roommate who was a violinist and the concert master at OCU said he spent as many hours practicing in his head as he did practicing with his hands. 4) Just keep your guitar, mandolin, banjo etc. handy. My teaching style specifically fits each individual students needs. Every student has different challenges that they face during their musical education. I also know that each student works at his or her own pace. Throughout my music teaching career, I have enjoyed watching students progress on their instruments in both proficiency and their love of playing. I enjoy watching their weekly improvement on both the solo and ensemble level and encourage them to perform often in a variety of settings to build their confidence in public performance whether that be as members of school bands and ensembles or in public recitals showcasing their progress to both parents and friends Read More
Instruments: Violin
It's not enough to just go through the motions. I insist that my students contemplate their progress, bringing goals and questions to every lesson. I believe that music is as much about you as a person as it is about technique and work ethic, and as such, I care deeply about everybody that I instruct. Remember, impressing me isn't the goal! You will have the best possible experience in my studio if you bring work that you are satisfied with. Read More
