My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private voice students in Switzerland. When I moved to California in 2003 I continued teaching in my home studio and at music stores in my area. Slowly I started to expand my expertise into different genres and incorporate piano and guitar in my lessons. Depending on where the student is on their development, and which instrument: Guitar - I typically try and start with fundamentals such as how to hold your instrument.. where in the fret to press and make it sing and sound correct. I usually give them a couple simple, one or two string ditties to practice. Then I usually go over some of the basic, commonly used chords and have the student practice on making sure that they can hear all the correct strings ring when they strike the chord. Read More

I am motivated to keep students constantly engaged and passionate about their instrument! As a multi-instrumentalist I always play different instruments with students to give them a sense of playing in a group, which is what music should be all about! I also do my best to acknowledge the students strengths and weaknesses and take some time aside in class to speak to them about them. For beginners, I start with the basics. I will show the student the anatomy of the guitar or bass and how to care for it. After that, I will begin to teach basic techniques. I will show how to pluck the strings and fret the notes. Once the student has a grasp of those concepts, I will teach them basic chords and scales. I will also teach the student how to sight read because in my opinion it is one of the greatest skills a musician needs. Read More

I have a laisse-faire style of teaching. I am very relaxed and like my students to be relaxed. I depends on how the lesson flows. If we are making ground and they are picking up a lot I will give them more and more tools to work with to keep them inspired and moving! I love seeing people get excited.
