I am a large proponent of fundamentals, and will always encourage students to refine these techniques first. This will include scales, tone production, voicing and overtones, and more! Alongside this will be a combination of student choice pieces and etudes from various books. I like to start with the Melodious and Progressive Studies by David Hite, then progress to Ferling's 48 etudes for more advanced students. I do not believe in setting "practice times" as I find that can create very unhealthy practice habits physically and emotionally. I began taking private students two years ago with an age range of 14 years old to 62 years old. Since beginning my Master's Degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, I am the TA for the Saxophone Department and I currently have 8 students (Freshman and Sophomore Undergraduates).
