Daily practice sessions are encouraged, but thoughtful, intermittent practice sessions far outweigh the necessity of sitting behind the kit every day. I began my love of music in highschool, being in the marching band for 4 years playing several different instruments (percussion, trumpet, trombone, tuba). Singing became my choice of career in college, and while in college, I was able to perform major roles in operas such as Porgy and Bess in which I played the role of Serena at the age of 19, making me the youngest person to have ever performed that huge role. I teach half hour lessons and instruct the student on good reading habits, how to practice and perform, encouraging them to bring in any supplemental music they are working on at school or on the internet. The importance of practice cannot be over emphasized, nor can the encouragement (nagging!!) Of an interested parent. A student cannot learn an instrument just by coming to lessons. For beginners, the fundamentals are essential to building a strong musical foundation. These include the technical aspects of playing the horn, as well as listening to all forms of music in a concentrated manner in order to enable the student to not just PLAY, but to also LISTEN. In 2009, Dan was selected as bass trombonist for the Carnegie Hall Orchestral Winds seminar where he collaborated with the principals from the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, and Philadelphia Orchestra. He has performed with professional ensembles such as Harrisburg Symphony, Waco Symphony Orchestra, and the Gaylen Jeter Jazz Orchestra. Dan has been a scholarship and fellowship recipient for some of the most prestigious music festivals, including the National Orchestral Institute and the Aspen Music Festival. Read More

My teaching style is a mix of fun and education. I was a student who struggled with ADD and I want to make each student's learning experience fun as the rudiments are mastered. I include drum set sheet music, and learning the student's favorite songs at their pace. If they need help with school band charts they are welcomed to bring them for study at the lesson.
