I'm a passionate and energetic instructor who loves working with students of all ages and sharing my love of music. In 1994, I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. Performing as lead singer in a very fun dance/funk band with a horn section has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I've been fortunate to play almost every large venue in our great city as well as open up for famous acts such as Howard Jones at the Gothic Theater. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
It's my goal to teach in a way that relates to the individual student and their goals. I spend time focusing on at what point each student is, in the accomplishment of their goals. Encouragement and patient accomplishment are important aspects of my lessons. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Saxophone French Horn
My method varies for every student but I have a very specific plan for each level of experience. Beginners would focus on essential elements books and beginner packets that cover basics and also have rewarding solo pieces. More advanced students would focus on scales and long tones with etudes for fundamentals and repertoire for solo playing and performances. Of course, anyone wanting to focus on jazz or certain styles of playing and older players can decide what they want to do and I will guide them as we go. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar
As discussed in "My Methods" I value our time together and want each student to get the most out of each lesson. I work with students to help them learn what they want to. Teaching to me is not a "one size fits all" deal. Different people have different desires and levels they want to get to musically. Some people want to learn music theory and the "why" behind music. Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar Banjo Ukulele Mandolin
For beginners I press through Hal Leonard's Guitar Method #1, laying a foundation of skills as well as approaching notation reading on the guitar. From there we begin to specialize based on the student's interest. For more advanced students, we'll focus on goals such as live performances, audition preparation, and repertoire. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
For beginning students who are children, I start with Rubank's Elementary Method book. This will provide the student with the basic fundementals. I will then introduce the student to a variety of solo repertoire for his or her instrument. I try to make my lessons as fun as possible so the child grows up with music as a fun, artistic outlet. For students who already have knowledge on their instrument or who are adults, I aim to find what the student is interested in, and adjust my instruction accordingly. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium French Horn Tuba
When I'm working with beginning students, my defaul method book is Essential Elements. However, if students have another book for a school band class, I am more then happy to work with them to preserve some line of consistency in the students education. As they progress, I look to find more advanced etude and solo books, focusing on music that is of interest to the student. Practicing music should be fun, and I try to make it fun, while maintaining an emphasis on fundamentals and musicianship. Read More
