Students are encouraged to take what they've learned and participate in recitals, competitions, and any other musical opportunity they can find. If there is confusion on a song, we review it for a few weeks. I also like for parents to take a hands-off approach. I've been teaching for a total of three years now. In that time I've had many different students and picked up on many different teaching techniques as a result. My experience is mostly with late elementary school students but I have also taught middle school and early high school students as well. I would consider myself most proficient in teaching those with little to no experience, but I truly enjoy teaching those who already have goals in mind when they first walk through the door as that is the starting point from my perspective. I believe wholeheartedly that music is supposed to be fun and I have every intention of keeping it that way as an instructor. That isn't to say that learning the guitar is easy. Unfortunately, for most of us it just isn't. However, I do believe that the best way to approach the guitar is recognizing that 1) You're never done learning and 2) That's a good thing. I have recently graduated with Doctoral of Musical Arts at The Ohio State University under guidance of Katherine Borst Jones and as a soloist I have performed for "Franz Devienne Flute Concerto No. 7 in e minor" with The Ohio State University Symphony Orchestra. The groups I play in I am the lead trombone so I have a responsibility to teach my coherts the correct rythms, intunation and style. I do recordings for our Jazz band as well as lead trombone.
