My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching adults part time as an undergraduate at the San Francisco Conservatory. In 2000, I moved to San Antonio where I was on the staff at Northside Music School as a part time cello instructor. I enjoyed teaching high school students, and helped them organize their busy schedules by encouraging and assisting them to keep a written journal of lesson assignments and key learning points and accomplishments made from week to week. I use a broad amount of materials that I tailor to each individual student. Trumpet students use a variety of materials from the Arban Book, H. L. Clarks "Technical Studies," Max Schlossberg's "Daily Drills and Technical Studies" and a variety of solo and duet books. It is important that each student learns at a speed suited to them and each lesson is personalized so the student is challenged to grow but not overwhelmed. Read More

I use a variety of methods for young beginners (depending on their age) - Faber Faber, Alfred, Alfred Premiere, Bastien, and Hal Leonard. For beginning adult students, I find Faber Faber for the older beginner to well paced to teach fundamentals. My digital piano has engaging learning games to reinforce fundamental note reading and rhythm, as well as aural training, chord recognition, and sight reading play along songs. I have been playing drums for over 10 years and I am passionate about teaching and playing music. I have studied at Berklee College of Music and at Marian University in Indianapolis. In the Fall of 2008 I received the Fellowship Award from the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation. I have also spent time performing around the Indianapolis area, most notably at the Jazz Kitchen. I consider myself more of a Jazz fusion player but love to play Jazz, Rock, Funk, Latin, Pop, R & B and many other styles of music. Read More

I start with each new student by getting to know what music styles they like, what songs they want to learn, what their goals are. I work with the students to select specific songs they want to learn NOW and then I build my entire lesson plan and approach around those. Rather than start them off with drills and exercises, we immediately begin learning content that the students actually care about. Read More
