I tend to start beginning students with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements books, but if I find that the student either has previous experience or else progresses much faster than normal, I will move them to the Rubank Blue Book instead. Fundamentals are a critical element for learning any new instrument, and that includes playing scales. I am a patient teacher who enjoys working with students of all ages. I played tuba, euphonium, and bass trombone in every ensemble in college and spent time on as the principal player in the top ensemble on multiple instruments. I obtained my Master’s degree in 2016 and immediately began teaching elementary school music. For example, Monday the student will be introduce to a new piece of music. As they look at the music they may feel that it is impossible to learned the by the end of the week. But I explain to them that when a person grow they don't physically see themselves growing overtime it just happens. One has to sleep, eat, etc before the body grows.
