My teaching experience dates back to my teenager days, as I began to play in my high school marching band to began to understand rudiments and reading. So coming from church everything I played I could break it down into rudiments. I started teaching private lessons to the kids at my church and other churches, and its been about 9 years or so. I love teaching guitar to motivated students. I have been fortunate to play and teach guitar for a living my entire life, and it is still exciting to help students find their voice on guitar. After teaching guitar for the University of Tennessee for 10 years, I moved to Nashville where I was able to tour the world playing music for 12 years. Whether playing a festival for 50,000 people on the side of a volcano in Japan, overdubbing a guitar part for a national Toyota commercial, or helping someone tune their guitar for the very first time, it is still exciting. We further move on to the Intermediate and Advanced methods while also adding solo repertoire that is suitable to their skill level. Along with these method books, we will also work on music that they personally enjoy. For the beginner who is 11 or younger, I start with John Thompson's Piano Courses to make sure the student familiar with all necessary elements of music. Then I will introduce some music that helps developing fingers appropriately and beautiful at the same time, such as Lemoine and Burgnlueller. For students who is 12-17, I start with teaching small and fun pieces, and ask their preference at the same time, then adjust my classes accordingly. Read More

My teaching style depends upon the student! I love reaching set goals, and I verbally check in to take the students feelings, thoughts, and playing into account. We come to a decision together, and I am not the final say on any matter. I see lessons as a collaboration, as I have much to learn from this experience as well.
