I have been teaching for over 40 years. In my studio, my focus is on repertoire, however I also cover ear training, theory and composition. I teach all styles of music with a focus on the classical repertoire. The theory, composition and ear training will often coincide with the style of music being studied. My approach is repertoire-based, meaning that we learn technique through the demands of particular pieces; I also teach strength-training exercises to help students develop their fullest potential on trumpet. Deriving inspiration from both classical and jazz methods, I also believe in exploring the physical capabilities and limitations of the instrument so that the player can develop a personal relationship to it. For my more advanced students, I introduce fundamental saxophone techniques as well as solo repertoire.
