Shortly after graduating from Otterbein University, I became a certified substitute teacher for three consecutive school years (2012-2015). While pursuing my career in music, I also greatly enjoyed my time in the classroom. I was certified to teach grades K-12 and worked at dozens of different school districts in the Columbus, OH area. I have recently graduated with Doctoral of Musical Arts at The Ohio State University under guidance of Katherine Borst Jones and as a soloist I have performed for "Franz Devienne Flute Concerto No. 7 in e minor" with The Ohio State University Symphony Orchestra. William's passion for music began at a young age, and he began studying with his father at just five years old, who taught him the lessons he learned from Charles "Charley" Wilcoxon. He then went on to study with Phil Shipley, the Principal percussionist with the Columbus Orchestra, among others. My ultimate goal in teaching music students is to develop players who are intrinsically motivated. This is a long-term process which I enjoy guiding. I'm very interested in the psychology of motivation for each individual student, realizing that what "works" with one student may not be effective with another. I enjoy developing a relationship with individual students which is based on more than our involvement in music. I'm a firm believer that teaching individual lessons is about more than just music; it's a special one-on-one, teacher-student relationship which can have a positive, life-long impact. Read More
