Teaching Philosophy I believe that a students passion for learning music begins with the instructors passion for teaching music. Even after 20 years, I find that I enjoy working with students as much today as my first year teaching. What fuels this passion, for me, is to constantly expand what I teach, and improve the way in which I teach it. This includes things like finding new songs/styles to explore, incorporating new technologies in the lesson (computer software, mp3 background tracks), teaching not only the notes on the page, but also the history behind the music and continually fine-tuning my teaching style to address the individual learning style of each student. I have performed the professional role of Lady Ella/Chorus with Cimarron Opera in their performance of Patience. I was previously a member of the Wichita Grand Opera Chorus, and recently performed in their productions of Turandot, Don Carlo, Tosca, Guillaume Tell, Otello and Le Nozze di Figaro. I have alsoperformed other professional roles such as a Belle/Chorus in The Forum Theater's production ofA Christmas Carol. I began teaching in college and focused on motivating younger players to continue to exploring the instrument. I noticed early on that so many young students would stop showing up to lesson after just a few weeks. My goal has always been to expose every student to the potential their instrument has.
