For beginning students, I typically start with materials from Mel Bay or Hal Leonard. Once a student has completed this, I begin to offer materials that are more specific to the musical genre that they have stated interest in. As a student progresses, I work to expose them to a variety of techniques with a focus on helping them to develop their own unique voice on their instrument. My hope is that, during this process, students would come to view growing in their musical gifts as an enjoyable and fulfilling process that continues throughout their life. Read More

I am passionate about singing and about teaching others singing technique. I have my bachelor‘s degree in music from the University of Mount Olive. I also studied in the Masters program at ECU for vocal pedagogy. I’ve had leads in local operas and and I am also a vocal artist who sings gospel music along with other genres. My teaching method begins with fundamentals. First, I teach about the piano itself. Second, I teach the notes. Third, I teach tones and steps. Fourth, I teach about major and minor scales. After I lay that foundation for the student I continue with theory and note identification. The student is ready to take off from there.
