My goal as a teacher is to encourage a love of music and performing in my students. Working with individual students, my first objective is to find an appropriate pace at which to work, and then it is to set different short-term and long-term goals. I always try to get to know my students well, because I believe that when a teacher and a student have a good relationship, lessons become stress-free and goals become better tailored to the student. Instruments: Piano
I've been teaching piano to students of all ages as my sole profession since 2002. I usually have between 20 and 25 students at a time. I have also earned certification through the Music Teachers National Association through a combination of testing and proofs of competency. I keep up to date professionally through my memberships in Lancaster Music Teachers Association and the Main Line Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers and in my role as the Center Coordinator for the Music Development Program. Most of all though, I've learned from my students, who are always the best teachers. The part I love best about my job is that I get to cater the curriculum to each student individually. Each student can have their own "best assignment". Read More

I teach based on what is best suited for the learner. All students learn differently and at different speeds. Students will be able to choose repertoire and learn technique through the music they love. Students are encouraged to discuss the music that they are interested in, their goals, and interests. Students will be encouraged to practice and will be recognized when they have success and accomplishments. Learning about the student also helps me to understand their future goals with music. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher before I ever touched a guitar. Growing up in a family of school teachers allowed me to see the broad spectrum of the educaGonal process, from designing lesson plans to filing report cards, and I quickly realized that a teacher doesn’t stop working when the bell rings. Teaching history out of a textbook is one thing...teaching a student to hear the color of an altered dominant chord is a totally different beast. Read More

Each student has an individual connection with music, and therefore a teacher should be willing to adapt their methods in the best interest of each student. When working with a new student, I devote the first lesson to getting to know each other; the student's interest in music, their proficiency level (if they've studied in the past), their hobbies, Depending on that meeting we might choose to focus more on music theory, or ear training, or performance repertoire; whatever the student and I set as a goal for our work together. In Russia, I was a concert pianist as well as a teacher of classic piano theory and performance. I was a soloist who performed with a full orchestra as well as being a chamber musician, accompanist for singers and for strings. Since I came to the United States, I have concentrated more on teaching. I have taught piano at many music schools and have also given private lessons, both at students' homes and at my music studio. My piano students have won multiple awards at music competitions in Russia and the United States. In 2006, a student of mine won first prize at the West Chester University Music Competition. Then in 2011, my students won prizes in the International Music Competition, the National League Competition and the Tri-County Competition. Read More
Instruments: Voice
For younger students, I tend to focus on the production of breath and basic sounds as they begin to grow into their body. This is to ensure that the baseline technique is there as they find how their instrument, the voice, is growing into their developing selves. For adult students of any technique, I prefer to start with basic vocal exercises to test the agility and flexibility of the voice so that I have an understanding of how their matured voice functions.
