Music is life, so I love music and I love sharing and teaching my students the best way to guide them using only music as an educational resource, but also the motivation to exploit their talents in the best way. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a passion for music, and seeing their confidence grow as they progress. Therefore, it is important that each student learns at his or her own pace. There is no need to over-exhaust them with tasks but I do encourage individual growth and development by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments big or small helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students more eager to learn. Read More

My passion for working with students started in high school. I was a long time counselor at my high school's summer day camp and acted as a leader to a group of kids from 2nd grade to 4th grade. In college that passion, combined with my passion for music, led me to major in music education. While at Willamette I helped middle schools and high schools in the community by serving as a percussion specialist running sectionals or coaching jazz rhythm sections. Read More

At each lesson, I try to touch on different components of musicality. Beginning with tone and technique, posture and proper warm up. Then we work on pieces of music and incorporating theory, and playing musically. It is important as a teacher to set realistic goals for my students, acknowledge their accomplishments and to find out what inspires them. I encourage students to have a notebook at each lesson so that they can keep track of their practice focus as they continue to increase their playing ability and knowledge. Read More
