For instance, if it is an orchestra rehearsal I practice the excerpts that are the most challenging first and then move on to the simpler sections. I am a passionate, lifelong, and experienced Indie Rock musician with a flare for hardcore music theory and expertise's ranging from Samba to the Avant-garde. I learned how to play as a teenager. I would play Rush records front to back as well as some of the other more drum driven records and perfect techniques to rise to the occasion. I was then involved in churches and contemporary, traditional, orchestral worship/Christmas/Celebratory services; meaning I was able play as many as 5 times a week in front of a large audience for many years. There I cultivated my skills as a soloist, ensemble player, and accompanist for several student recitals. I received his Bachelors of the Arts in Musical Composition and Psychology, with Honors in both, in 2009. While working towards my degree I began teaching both group classes and private lessons in the Elk Grove area eventually expanding to the greater Sacramento area and Davis during my almost 20 years of teaching. I became a member of the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) in 2010 and held many positions in the organization for the Yolo County Branch, including Chair of the Composer’s Today program (a program that holds an annual recital for students who compose their own music), Recording Secretary, and I'm currently finishing my tenure as Branch President. I travel to all of my students houses and have a very flexible schedule. It helps with minimizing the time of the parents/ students travel and bringing the lesson into the comfort of their own home. I check with each student what they are really trying to get out of their lessons and which direction they want to go.
