Professionally I have been playing in a heavy metal band for 12 years and have shared the stage with many national acts including Damage Plan (Dimebag Darrel), Mudvayne, Type O Negative, Hell Yeah, Wednesday 13, KMFDM, Custom, MSI and multiple 4000 plus shows with Marilyn Manson. Beginners to advanced players are welcome along with everyone ages 9-70. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Though I have taught on and off for the last fifteen years, my most formative experience as a teacher was my time teaching at School of Rock in 2015. I taught bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals, and ensemble musicianship to students ranging in age from 6 to 60. For my beginner students who are children, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and sometimes Lee W. Kikuchi's Musicianship for Strings. Scales and arpeggios follow shortly after. As the student progresses, I follow up with Harvey S. Whistler's Introducing the Positions (this book can also work with adults). Etude books such as Wohlfahrt and Kreutzer come into play when the student is ready. As far as repertiore, I use the first few Suzuki books and Barber's "Soloists for Young Violinists" for my younger students (the latter can also work with adults). Read More

I will work invariably though with all students in building a solid vocal technique based on singing with the air flow and always promoting a healthy tone quality. I began teaching private students many years ago when I was in college. I quickly realized that teaching was extremely fulfilling, in a completely different way than performing. With teaching I am able to give back to the community and help to inspire students in the way I was inspired as a child.
