As I’ve said above, as a teacher, I live for the “ah ha” moment. When a student is working on something, particularly something challenging, and they finally “get” it. Whether it’s a scale, a favorite song, a technique exercise, or a complex piece of music, there’s that moment. The moment it comes together and makes sense. It suddenly “clicks”. I find that it does not matter which style of singing you would like to learn or how you would like to use your voice, breathing and breath work are an essential foundation to wonderful music making. Between the anatomy and physiology we were learning, an introduction to various vocal pedagogies, and gaining an understanding of the psychological components of voice study, I was hooked, and I haven't stopped. For younger students (under eight years old) I usually use the Alfred all in one book.. for older children, I use the Bastian set of four books: piano performance, technic and theory.
