As a child, I was endlessly inspired by my piano teacher. She was quirky and unconventional, never wanting music to feel like a "chore." When I would get frustrated with myself, she'd throw up her hands and exclaim, "let's take a break and jam!" She would then pull out a chord progression and we'd improvise together until I was ready to go back to my sheet music. She sparked an excitement in me that I try to pass on to my students. Read More

I believe one of the most important things in teaching is meeting the student where they are. It is vital to know a student and their strengths and weaknesses before giving them cookie-cutter assignments. As such, much of the early stages of my lessons involve a fair amount of adjustments and experimentation until we find the pace and flow that works for the student. Once we have found that pace, setting realistic goals and finding ways to engage and encourage the student to keep up a consistent practice schedule become the main priority. Read More

Through my studio, I have taught voice, beginner violin and viola, music ensembles, music management, production, music publishing and audio engineering. I have also worked as a live sound technician for several CT venues. I currently perform in the ensemble, Ulterior Motif in the styles of neoclassical, gypsy jazz, contemporary and world music. My compositions have been published with the Discovery Channel, HBO, Hulu, Netflix, in independent films, and in a variety of television marketing campaigns throughout the United Kingdom. Read More

I am a very organised teacher, giving each of my students lesson notes with exercises and aspects to work on. I regularly suggest music which complements the work we are doing to strengthen the voice, create flexibility, or consistency of tone. I am a bit of a perfectionist, but I also hold myself to that high standard. It is so important to me to get students to listen to themselves, to think critically about what they hear and feel, and also learn how to troubleshoot issues on their own! Read More

For all of my students, I let them pick a song (vocal) or piece (violin) that they would like to sing or play. This way I can analyze what level they are on. For my voice students, I start with vocal warm-up exercises of the different vowels. It helps me to understand their range as well as tone of voice. For my violin students, I usually stick with the Suzuki Method, or Essential Elements books, if they are in the more beginning stages. Read More

My methods used for piano students are the Randall and Nancy Faber teaching books; they are among the very best teaching materials due to their ease of comprehension, their logical sequence of concepts taught, and also their practical exercises and songs for the student. My methods used for Band instruments (trumpet, clarinet, flute, drums, and trombone), are the Standard of Excellence books, as they are also among the very best in regards to explaining musical concepts, presenting new songs, and logical progression. I was self diagnosed with "music fever" as a very young child. I began playing shows and concerts with my family as young as 13 and, even then, I loved to teach, and share music with my friends and colleagues. Naturally I pursued a degree in Music at the University of Maine where I became principle bassist of the University Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble. This combination, as well as countless other groups and performances, taught me a wide variety of learning, and playing styles that would inform the way I would teach my students. Read More
