Intermediates are also responsible for learning to play the entirety of the guitar neck, so practicing in all positions becomes a focus. "Theory, Technique and Application" sums up the process. Students should be learning the concepts and structure of music (theory), developing various techniques to enhance their abilities and then applying them to music they wish to learn about. I also prioritize creative projects for students to apply what they learn into their own original songs. Read More

There's nothing more fulfilling than witnessing a student cultivate a genuine love for music. Hence, I prioritize enabling every student to advance according to their individual pace. I foster this by establishing achievable objectives during each lesson, recognizing their achievements to ignite their motivation to excel and further their learning enthusiasm. By identifying their sources of inspiration, I adeptly customize my instruction to cater to their preferences and necessities. For younger students with no sight reading experience, I will typically start of with Ted Reed's book Syncopation. This book starts the student off with a very basic music notation vocabulary. This vocabulary is often quickly absorbed so that the student may proceed to more complicated musical words or phrases. Proficient sight reading skills are hugely important to the Drummer, as well as any other musician who will strive to succeed. Read More

I am constantly encouraging students to practice as slow as they need to. This eables students to have realistic goals each week that can be attained. It is important to take the time to acknowledge students and their accomplishments. This helps keep the learning fun and energetic. Read More

Something I have learned over the years is that regular and consistent practice time is our best friend as musicians. Singing is a form of exercise and the more we repeat healthy vocal habits, the better we will sing. This is why I encourage all of my students to set some time aside to work on their voice and music. I employ a very eclectic, rotating repetoire. For beginning violin students, I use the Suzuki method of ear-training, however I am not married to that curriculum. I prefer to use beginning Suzuki materials in tandem with standard American folk and pop music, in accordance to the student's interests. I am qualified to teach all the way through Suzuki book 10 if the student prefers a more classical approach. Ear training is fundamental in my approach to all instruments and styles. Read More
