So we study chords and rhythms, as they relate to the songs the client enjoys. I like to insert a five to ten minute practice before digging into the main lesson. This involves playing scales or running chord progressions or learning about, for example, the circle of 5ths or 4ths. My philosophy is that the lessons should be personalised around the students needs and interests.  For voice, I work on vocal technique with my students, and on how to apply it to whatever style they like.  For piano, I like to work with the Alfred's piano books, gradually adding repertoire that matches their ability level, and can yet be fun. I have a few Faber and Alfred books for ideas of repertoire, but I also like to just let the student chose what songs they'd like to play, so that it's more interesting for the both of us! Once the student has progressed, I will introduce more appropriate material to advance the student with. For adults and more experienced students I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and especially fun, no matter their ability level.
