My experience teaching goes back to high school in which I tutored students in multiple subjects including Spanish and English. I also would help my section to improve as a section leader. During my college years, I worked as a graduate teaching assistant which allowed me to help students primarily in music. Part of my duties included teaching smaller classes and tutoring students in music theory and ear training. When the flute professor was unavailable, I would run studio class with another teaching assistant. Read More

I am a passionate, life-long learner and artist who, after a successful international career as a performer, recording artist and entrepreneur, decided at age 50 to go to school in order to gain the academic qualifications that would better enable me to "give back" to society by educating and inspiring others. The past 6 years of my diligence and determination in school has led to achieving a BA, MA, and DMA, thereby adding to an already impressive professional background, new skills in scholarship and education. I have been teaching on and off for the last two years. I have taken classes in Instrumental Pedagogy designed to teach us the best skills to teach students of all ages. I teach in either the students' home or in my living room. I've found that the most important part of a student's musical education is their outside practice and, usually, students are only willing to practice if they are having fun and feeling motivated and encouraged. In my lessons, I work hard to create a routine that best fits the students needs. This typically means that many of my students are not following a specific lesson plan or standard routine. Starting out, I stress fundamentals and warm-ups to help the students create a solid grasp of the instrument, before making the move towards solo repertoire. Of course, the older and more experience the student is will influence the difficulty of the routine, however, I always make sure that goals that I have set for a student are within reach. Read More

For all of my beginning students I use the Suzuki method. I am a very fast paced teacher, and I hold all of my students to high standards. As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities. For my vocal students I select music that is appropriate for them from the very beginning. For my male vocal students, I coach them through the voice change, which is a rewarding experience for me.
