My methods include a number of fundamentals that include scales, technique and learning how to get around the instrument with ease and versatility. For beginners, I like to focus on the George Vance techniques and teaching in order to build a strong foundation. At the intermediate level, I like to find out what the students find interesting and cater the lesson plans around that. Same applies for adult students, I like to see where their interest are and focus on those aspects during the lessons while ensuring that their fundamental chops are at the level they need to be. I usually balances the time by working first on fundamental/technical aspects of the instrument: intonation, articulation, rhythm, and tone; followed by study of the particular student's chosen repertoire, whether it be jazz standards, rock/pop/blues tunes, classical literature or etudes. I believe in teaching students to organize their practice time wisely, isolating specific issues on the instrument. Cultivating personal musical goals with each student is also very important, in order to maximize the student's enjoyment of the time they spend playing. Read More

For older students, especially high schoolers, I like to use a blue book called Foundations for Superior Performance (Warm-Ups and Technique for Band) by Richard Williams and Jeff King as the techniques in that book are more suited for what a high school-level player should be expected to play. As for adults, I recommend Brass Gym as well as books from made by university professors and other professional instrumentalists. Moving beyond warm-ups and technique mastery, I like to find different solos that appropriately challenge and help hone on a skill that my student is focusing on working on. Read More

Music has no limits...music is everything and...everything is music ! Although i am mostly a rock drummer, my influences and most of my students they were in that "rock side". But, most of the times the student is the guide to which way of music need to choose. The most important is to understand the student's desire,to become one with the student's passion for music and finally to show him/her the way to make this dream come true... Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 3 years. Lessons and master class performances throughout the nation with such artists as Ian Clarke, Jim Walker, Leone Buyse and more have given me a range of professional viewpoints and inspired my teaching and performance. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. Instruments: Voice
Hi! I am so excited to get started here with Musika and to start working with students who are just as passionate and love music as much as I do. I just graduated with my Associates of Arts in Music from Lone Star Community College but have had a lot of experience with experienced voice teachers who have actually performed all over the world. I've had the opportunity to join in singing with Houston Chamber Choir throughout this last year, and singing with the Houston Cecilia Chamber Choir. Read More

There are many terrific methods and books available for musical development. An easy and enjoyable starter is Essential Elements. The Eubanks series is good, especially the advanced flute book one. There are some great solo books especially the Kris books 1-3 that come with nice piano accompaniments. Students really benefit from scale technique development coupled with arpeggio and varied articulation studies like Klose for Clarinet and Melodiusvand Progressive Studies for Saxophone. Read More
