I began teaching to some degree in middle school. I would help the school guitar teacher with beginner and advanced guitar during lunch. Most of my responsibility was reinforcing the lessons and practicing alongside individual students who were struggling. While attending high school, I was the only guitarist for the school band and got requests for private lessons from my peers, which I gladly accepted. I start beginners with the drum rudiments and chart reading. This gets them able to move their hands and feet for better coordination. After they have better coordination I introduce ear training which is playing along to their favorite songs. This teaches the student how toplay with a band. As a kinesthetic learner, I have always had a tendency of using colors, rhymes, similarities, acronyms among other things to ease my learning ability of which I have found myself using a similar method when explaining a concept to one of my students. Setting short and long term goals allow for me and the student to be enthusiastic to learn and eager to step into our next lesson. For beginning students (children or adults) I begin with an introduction to the major scale and implement it into our vocal warm-ups. Once the student has developed and progressed over certain aspects I will introduce repertoire that will be learned and performed at the end. I often create my own custom lesson plans because every student is different and requires certain attention.
