My teaching experience began after I graduated from college 5 years ago. I discovered a talented young drummer while working at a music store, cultivating and channeling his talent. I like to take the time and learn from my students what inspired them to want to learn drums, and what they wish to learn from the lessons. There is no single definitive teaching method series. I try to tailor the method to the individual. For the beginning student, my personal favorite series is the Diller-Quaile because it offers a gradual and steady progression from basic to more complex. Also, the material presented is far more interesting than in most other collections. For a more advanced student, I generally assess their capabilities and very often introduce them to the Bach two and three part Inventions. Read More

I have performed professionally in opera, operetta, and oratorio across the United States and Europe. I have studied vocal performance at University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, the Mozarteum and Universitaet Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria, and the University of Maine-Orono. I have a BA in German Language & Literature from UMKC, an MS in Organizational Psychology from from UHartford, and also teach foreign languages privately. I believe in encouragement and positive reinforcement at every lesson. I feel that patience is an essential tool in teaching -- every student is unique and proceeds at his or her own pace. I also like to briefly demonstrate the exercises and techniques we are studying, so that my students can see and hear what they are working on, but the student does most of the playing.
