Later, I began to teach from my home and eventually was offered a job in a music store. I've given thousands of lessons since I began teaching. This is much more feasible in individual lessons as opposed to the more structured and scheduled group classes I teach. Both technical exercises and new pieces of music are approached slowly and methodically at first, in an effort to ensure each student has a complete understanding of the purpose of exercises, or what is occurring in a particular passage of music. I teach all levels from Beginner through Advanced. I often, with beginners, make sure we learn the fundamentals. This gives them a firm foundation, so when we move on, we are not forced to go back to the beginning. I believe the key to being an advanced drummer is the concept of foot-hand independence. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a passion for the trumpet and music. Therefore, it is very important to me that I make the lessons both fun and productive for the students. I will gear my teaching style to whatever works best for the individual student.
