She was able to let her voice out in an operatic manner, and the big phrases had a line and dramatic power. The voice has an instrumental timbre with a touch of hardness that is very effective at full strength.” The New York Times ----New York, NY “Delightful is the best way to describe Miss Lim in the “trouser” role of Oscar. She cavorted across the stage while trilling her voice and elicited lots of laughter, especially when snatching the wig from the head of a pompous judge ...” Chattanooga Times ----Chattanooga, TN Read More

It is very important to set a high standard of playing and technique, so that learning is constantly happening. That said, that standard should be approached with compassion and humor, casting the lifelong pursuit of virtuosity an exciting challenge even when it's frustrating. Especially with youth, cultivating a positive attitude and discipline is a key to success. This can be done through musical study. It is important to me to keep the student engaged, and be clear about their motivations for studying: their parents and their own unique drive. Read More

My teaching style is very thorough and patient. I welcome mistakes! Please make mistakes! It is not about how often you fall down, but about how you get up again. If you want to work hard, I will work hard as well. My students know the importance of regular practice in order to build dependable muscle memory in their singing. In a lesson we will spend half the amount of time working on technical building exercises and half the time working on repertoire. Read More

I love to see students grasp concepts. It is extremely rewarding to see students understand a concept and be able to explain how neat it is to a parent or friend. When I get a new student, I get to know exactly what their goals are. We set long term goals, and we make progress by setting manageable short term goals every week. I inspire the student to reach their goals by providing tools to help, and custom lesson plans that are fun and engaging. Read More

I began to teach music when I was in college, giving private drum lessons to several students. Since graduating, I have spent time teaching at several different after school music programs, teaching drum set and piano to students of all ages. I found that I really enjoy communicating with students and helping them find their own passion for music. To me, music is about having fun - this is what I strive to bring out in our lessons! For beginning students I use graded methods such as Schultz Piano Course or Alfred Basic Piano to enable students to play a song from the very first lesson. These graded methods introduce basic note reading, the layout of the piano keys, and proper posture and hand positioning, allowing students to progress gradually and systematically to more advanced music. Interests and skill levels of older beginners and intermediate students are assessed individually, and a plan of study is tailored for them. Read More

I began teaching starting in my undergrad, where I would teach weekly one-on-one, or group lessons to trumpet players in rural Indiana. Here, I found that I had a deep passion for teaching music, and that I would want to pursue it more. Now, as I'm pursuing my Master's Degree at the Manhattan School of Music, I am teaching young students privately, as well as in group lessons. While teaching my students, I've always made sure to understand them personally, so that I could cater their lessons to how they want to improve and express themselves. Read More
