I have a few books I've become fond of (such as Faber, Schirmer, Hal Leonard, etc), but I have gone months at a time using no books at all -- keeping students happy. Not everyone prefers the same approach, and while I can offer expert guidance for those who aren't sure what to do, one of my main goals is simply to experiment with students, an attitude I try to foster in them too: You can work and work on some particular piece or song, but if you did it for extrinsic purposes . . . After college, where I acquired extensive experience as a performer, I decided to dive into teaching. I am a fairly new teacher (six months experience), and it has been quite exciting to formalize my methods as I find the style that best suits me and my students. What I have learned most in my time teaching is the importance of games, challenges, and performance opportunities to keep learning fun and to motivate students to strive for that next level. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time. I have been consistently teaching students since 2018. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

My methods of teaching vary depending on the age and skill level of the student. If the student is very young, I start them on simple exercises Designed by me. As they progress, I begin to implement certain books that Ive used in my career. There are three books I use religiously, Stick Control Ted Reeds syncopation book and N.A.R.D snare drum studies. As the student advances I choose books which will help them achieve the appropriate technique for the appropriate style they want to master. Read More

For me is very important to know what are the students ambitions are from the beggnining; weither they are taking lessons to play flute just for fun or if they have higher aspirations. From there I can make a proper study plan for them as an induvidual, which is paramount in helping achieve the students expectations. For beginners, I will start with all the necessary information that you need about the flute: how to handle the flute, how to clean it up after practicing, and then move onto correct breating, first tone etc...For more experienced fluitests, I will get to know about their background knowledge and have them play the last pieces that have learned to get an idea of where we would start. For students who are just starting out, I start with basic finger and breath support exercises. Once these become ingrained in the student's mind, I will introduce various excerpts based on their skill level, eventually working our way into solo repertoire. For students that have a few years under their belt, I prefer to get a grasp on what their strength and weaknesses are to assess what I can be of service, to select the solo or excerpt book that would best help improve their already developing talents. After getting a clear idea, I begin to look over the basic fundamentals of the guitar with the student. We either do this through beginner exercises I know from books that I have used throughout the years to learn and teach or just basic general exercises that I may have in mind. Examples of these books include: Troy Stetina Series, Hal Leonard Guitar Method, etc... After that, we would slowly move our way through more fundamentals and even check out some basic music theory (notes on the fretboard, basic chords and finger positioning, beginner scales, etc...) For intermediate students, I usually ask the student to play one of the best pieces he or she knows. Read More
