Instruments: Piano
I began teaching a couple years ago and have enjoyed seeing students develop a love for music and piano. If you love something, you work at it, so I highly encourage having a regular practice schedule outside of the lesson as this is a key point to developing the students skill and passion for music. Integrating different styles can help motivate the students to practice and learn, as well as making it fun. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola Electric Violin
I have held the concertmaster position in the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra, the Resurrection Orchestra, the Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City, and assistant concertmaster of the Eutin Opera Orchestra in Germany. As a soloist, I performed with the Resurrection Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Northland Cathedral, the University of Saint Mary Symphony, Oral Roberts University Symphony, and the University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra. My solo and chamber music recital work has included Morse Concert Hall at the Juilliard School, NYCs Advent Lutheran Church, Mannes School of Music, the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra Gala, and the Lied Center of Kansas for DukeTIP. My goal as a private educator is to find what each of my students enjoys about learning music. When sequential learning is introduced, along with material that motivates, this encourages dedication and progression. I believe most students learn best when they feel they have input in some of the learning process. My students are also encouraged to participate in competitions and recitals. Having a goal to work towards aids in accomplishment and motivation. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
I ask my students what it is they are trying to accomplish with me. Typically I look for goals that I know the student can accomplish if they apply themselves. I love nothing more than seeing them push themselves and watch them improve their playing to a level they originally thought they could not achieve. The problem is most students come in assuming they aren't good simply because they aren't at the same level as someone else. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Viola Clarinet
I have been teaching lessons since High School. Back then, I mostly taught beginner students on the Piano. Since College, I have expanded my teaching repertoir to include Piano, Organ, Violin, and Viola. For the past 7 years, I have been teaching and instructing my students on the best practices as blossoming musicians. Nothing can make you a better musician than practice and consistency. No matter what genre of music you are interested in, you must practice. There will always be times were you have toforce yourself to practice (because it won't always be fun), but the gains are never dull.It has been my experience that those students who apply themselves diligently, love to play the songs that they have mastered over and over again. My teaching style is a little eclectic. I like explaining everything I do because students should know why they're doing certain things. I work with each student to figure out why they're taking voice lessons and figure out accomplishments that they want to achieve. I'm tired of voice teachers only teaching classical music, especially when a student says they want something different. Classical music is important, especially in the music sphere, but singing and playing are not all about that. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I have been playing drums for 20 years and teaching for over 10 years. I've performed professionally all across the United States, including both coasts and throughout the midwest. In high school, I began teaching by showing my peers how to improve on their percussion instruments. Since then, it's been my lifelong endeavor to continue to improve, both as a musician and an educator. It is important for me to continue to learn, grow and perform in order to best help my students.
