For young children, consistency and fun are the name of the game. I like to use some simple materials and try to develop a love for the instrument and love for making music above all else. After a period of discovery and technical growth I will introduce material suitable for a recital performance. For young and older adults I like to take a more focused approach. Many students have an idea of what they would like to work on, and I am happy to help guide them to reach their goal. Read More

I am a classically trained, working percussionist with a passion for bringing music to life. I graduated from Wittenberg University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in percussion performance and participated in multiple honors ensembles as principal percussionist while enrolled. I have performed professionally at a variety of events around Austin, Texas, including with the Austin Klezmer Band and the Austin Civic Orchestra. In my own music practices, I strive to be both technically skillful on all percussion instruments from the marimba to the snare drum to the cymbals and, yes, even to the triangle, as well as musically knowledgeable in order to manifest musical interpretations that are just as expressive as they are contextually appropriate. Instruments: Voice
Singing has brought great joy to my life. From a young age my family and teachers encouraged me to overcome my inhibitions of singing so as to express my feelings through song. I began voice lessons at the age of seven with Verna Rantz, of Quakertown, Pa.. Verna had obtained her classical training at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music and performed in the New York Metropolitan Opera company. Peggy March and John Oates were just a few of her students who made their claim to fame. Read More

If a student isn't having fun learning the instrument then I am doing something wrong! Learning should be fun and a joy not a chore. I try to encourage the students to practice without being told to do so. With that comes a joy of doing it on your own and for themselves not for anyone else. Lessons in my studio are to compliment each students experiences and desires. Since teaching piano from my early college days until now, I find that students have many more interests than just music. A flexible teacher can establish a clear methodology for instructing their class room while being open to adjustments. In the case of music, this could be missing instrumentalists, inconsistent skill levels amongst the players, or disinterest amongst the students. A passionate teacher can draw out interest and work ethic from any student if they can convey that they are eager and excited to be in the classroom, sharing their craft. Read More

I began teaching during my undergraduate studies, initially starting out as a double major in performance and education. In a short time, I realized how deeply I loved working one on one with students, which led me to pursue performance full time and teach in my private studio. Once I moved to California, I began expanding my teaching to music schools (Yamaha) and have continued to work with students in a diverse array of settings (private studio, music schools, high schools, university). Instruments: Piano Voice
My methods depend heavily on the age of the student and the level of student I am working with. An example would be the beginner level. For beginning students, I first focus on helping them understand their range (i.e. bass, tenor, alto, soprano) and important fundamentals of singing (i.e. loose jaw, full use of our body as support for our voice, relaxed tongue, proper breath support with the diaphragm, expansion of the ribs, proper body posture, etc).
