I have taught clarinet lessons for ten years, and I have ample experience with teaching adult, beginning, intermediate, advanced, and college-level students. In addition, I have taught clarinet lessons and a methods course to music major and non-music major students at Eastman School of Music, and I taught private lessons in the Austin Independent School District. I have been teaching students of all ages since high school. While studying at Eastman, I have been responsible for teaching lessons to college-aged students of varying levels and abilities. I have also taught young beginners and older students returning to music. I have found that my wide ranging and diverse knowledge of the piano repertoire helps to engage students and encourages a personal relationship with music. I come from a strict classical background but now find myself having to be a versatile musician who appreciates and can perform all styles of music. I will work with each student to help them understand the fundamentals of jazz, for example, knowing major scales, minor scales, and all of the modes that we typically see in most jazz repertoire. For students that are more advanced we will work on learning how to play over common chord progressions and learn how to play songs found in the Great American Songbook. For students at a higher level, we can work on cementing more advanced techniques such as how to play over chord substitutions. Read More

Interestingly enough, my musical background has proven to be of great value to me. Anywhere from learning music theory on a deep level, to having the wonderful privilege of being able to appreciate the whole world as music via having trained musical ears. There were a few colleges that helped me out with gaining these skills, and even though they were state schools, I had the honor of meeting and learning from amazingly caring and worthwhile professors. I played many solo performances, joined wind ensemble, played in the All-State band each year and went to the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. Toward the end of High School, I grew a new taste for guitar and silently practiced it behind my saxophone, in college, until I was good enough to perform with it. Now I've played shows all around upstate New York as a lead guitarist in several bands and released an album with my primary band, Baker Street. Read More
